Hedge Calculator
Your open position plus the live price on the other side — the exact hedge stake and the guaranteed outcome.
Staking this amount on the other side locks the same profit no matter which ticket wins.
Worked example
You hold a $10 ticket at +150 — it pays $25.00 if it wins. The other side is now −110 (decimal 1.909), so the hedge stake is 25.00 / 1.909 = $13.10. Total wagered: $23.10. Both tickets pay $25.00, so you lock +$1.90 no matter what happens. If the hedge price drifts to −130 instead, the lock shrinks to +$0.87 — the worse the hedge price, the more of your win you spend on certainty.
FAQ
What is hedging a bet?
Hedging is betting the opposite side of a position you already hold. Sized correctly, the hedge makes both outcomes pay the same amount, converting an open risk into a locked result — a profit when the price moved in your favor, or a reduced loss when it moved against you.
How is the hedge stake calculated?
Take the total payout of the original bet (stake × decimal odds) and divide it by the decimal odds of the hedge side. That stake makes the hedge ticket pay exactly what the original ticket pays, so the two outcomes net the same amount either way.
When does hedging lock a profit?
When the current price on the other side is good enough that the original payout exceeds both stakes combined. That happens when the line moved toward your original bet — for example you hold +150 and the other side has shortened to −110.
Is hedging always the right move?
No. Hedging buys certainty at the cost of expected value — you give back edge in exchange for killing variance. If the original bet was +EV and you can stomach the swing, holding is usually worth more on average. Hedging makes sense when the locked amount is large relative to your bankroll or your read has changed.
What if the guarantee comes out negative?
A negative guarantee means the current hedge price is bad enough that locking costs you money — both outcomes would lose. That still has value: hedging at a locked small loss beats riding a position you no longer believe in to a full loss.
